The Challenge for me is not so much relaying photographic information, but in capturing the essence and spirit of the scene.By reducing and abstracting the elements from it. This is to make an intimate interpretation of the image.
Perception follows observation through elimination and reduction of detail. This can still convey reality strongly and more robustly, without creating areas of unnecessary distraction which detract from the overall picture.
The challenge for the srtist becomes finding the right dynamicbalance each time the easel is set up---- to observe, perceive, interpret and abstract.
In finding this balance, the artist relies heavily on color- perhaps the greatest tool. Color should not be linited to merely setting the mood or establishing time of day. It should create energy and set up tensions that are intergral to the life force of the paiting.
The control and exaggeration of color in the Landscape/Seascape and fundamentally important.Used in conjuction with thick paint, palette knife and energetic brushwork, the artist can offer something a little different every time it is viewed.
