Futurism is one of the components of Abstract Expressionism. It was an artistic and social movement that originated in Italy in the early 20th century. In my painting "Roads Well Traveled" the viewer is caught up in the speed, sound and technology concept of a car and the industrial city.(one of the examples of the Futuristic Art Movement.)
Color Field Painting is another major strain in the 20th century Expressionist Movement. The term typically is dominated by large flat expanses of color on canvas and having a minimum in the surface detail. These particular paintings have a unified single image field and differ from the gestural, expressive brushwork of such artists as Pollock and deKooning. This art form came after Post Painterly Abstract Expressionism Movement. One of the examples of my works in this manner is "The Ocean Road" where the viewer sees large fields of color. Other conceptual examples are my 3 paintings: "A Little Whimsey 1,2,3.
These paintings combine optical responses to multicolored paint to create rainbow effects.I used a banal target as a found design with which to examine different hues and values of flat color eliminating the use of brushstrokes altogether.
The Post Painterly Abstract Movement favored openess or clarity as opposed to the dense painterly surfaces of that painting style. Examples of my work "Skylights" and "Reflections".

I am largely concerned with arranging a variety of colors in different formations. The colors are densely worked on surfaces with bold expanses of color. Jagged shaped and encrusted surfaces suggest some geological formations.Using a palette knife as often or more frequently than the brush, I slathered and molded the pigments instead of dabbing and blending them.Out of the seven examples of Abstract Expressionism that I mentioned
in a previous blog, I am exploring the different examples within these movements. eg, Lyrical: a good example is my painting "Avenue Q". It is whimsical as seen with a red square out of line. It has a rhythm to the painting..... as in the movement of a subway train.
"All That Jazz" is an exploration of an all over color composition in which no single center of interest dominates the canvas. Some canvases evoke nature, all to encourage active, contemplative viewing to remind viewers of their connection in the world. In my painting "Miami Obsession" emphasized painterly qualities and strong color over the representational or realistic values retained by Impressionism in the Fauvism Movement. Some of my paintings are characterized by seemingly wild brush strokes and strident colors, while their subject matter has a high degree of simplification and abstraction.
