In my "Walkabout' series of paintings.....
Symbols are the letters or words of visual language and only acquire full meaning as part of a design or pattern. A concentric circle usually indicates a waterhole or a rock but it can also represent a tree, or a campfire. Straight lines indicate journeying and show the pathways travelled by the Ancestral beings in the Dreamtime. (Australian Aboriginal Spirituality). Body decoration in particular is present and the repetition of linear designs is another source of imagery brought forth in this Art Form.
Every painting I have created is an expression of a style of a language which the forms are found and the qualities are set forth.
Highly civilized and very tired brains feel the need to adore the rough force of the primitive, to dream of the noble savage and to attribute to him mythical virtues. It is creative and imaginative and makes ancestral maps of their country.
